How to get into digital marketing without a degree

It’s true - we’re all living on the internet. We shop, browse, explore, entertain ourselves and do our jobs all online. So it’s no wonder that the demand for digital marketers has boomed in recent years, with significant talent shortages forecasted as many businesses look to futureproof their workforce.

But how do you get in on this action, especially when you don’t have a degree or any relevant experience?

Well luckily, there are several tried and tested pathways to launch a digital marketing career without ever having been to university. Let’s take a look.

How do I get into digital marketing without a degree?

Apprenticeships

Employers are generally on the lookout for two main things: experience and knowledge. And you know what? An apprenticeship gives you both! Either straight from school or fresh from a career change, you can embark upon a digital marketing apprenticeship here at althaus without the need for a university degree. So, what’s in it for you?

You’ll get:

  • Paid employment in a digital marketing role to hone your experience
  • Hours of supported learning content to build your knowledge
  • Expert-led live webinars and self-study
  • Individualised learning plans
  • Opportunity to build strong relationships with your employer and fellow apprentices

Networking

It’s also very wise to network; apprenticeship or no apprenticeship. During a placement, you’ll naturally meet plenty of other people who are on your same career journey, at different stages along the way, some of whom you’ll meet at various online and face-to-face events scheduled as part of your further development.

You don’t have to restrict your networking to just these opportunities though. Get yourself on LinkedIn and attend events of your own accord. Get involved with discussions on social media. Share posts. Seek contacts. Building and maintaining these friendly acquaintances in your industry can eventually evolve into something brighter in the future - say, a job opportunity or business venture.

Do a little self-study

Of course, you can also pursue your own avenues of interest and learning in the digital marketing sector. While you’ll acquire a wealth of knowledge during your althaus apprenticeship, there’s nothing to stop you from doing a little of your own research and self-study into specific areas that interest you.

Being able to name drop some influencers or campaigns that you admire, for example, or to showcase your independent passion for learning will all stand you in good stead when it’s interview time in front of an employer for a role you’re genuinely excited about.

Wondering how to get into digital marketing? That’s what we’re all about here at althaus. Perfect courses for learning about different avenues within digital media, marketing and security! Incredibly professional and friendly from day 1 of the course, the team are always on hand to help with the on-demand courses along with live taught sessions which are very informative, inclusive and of high quality. I managed to bag myself a job within a related field before completing the course, however I can't recommend Althaus enough! If you're seriously interested in improving some of your digital skills, give these folks a shot.
